Administrative HistoryJohn King (1813-1886) originally came from Heanor and was responsible for improvements in lace manufacturing before he came to Pinxton. He was responsible for inventing the mine cage safety detaching hook device which prevents the re-occurrence of mining disasters which had taken place in the 1860s as a result of over-winding. The John King Museum was set up in 1986 in Victoria Street, Pinxton, at his old workshop.
Custodial HistoryThese records were donated to Derbyshire Record Office in April 1998 by Frank Smith, curator of the John King Museum.
