Administrative History | Richard Howitt, sixth son of Thomas and Phebe, was born on 23 February 1799. He worked as a druggist with his brother William in Nottingham in the 1820s, but there were personality conflicts with William and his wife Mary. Richard eventually worked independently. In 1839-1840 he travelled to Australia with his younger brother Dr Godfrey Howitt. Godfrey stayed in Australia but Richard returned after four years. He continued to publish poems, articles and books while farming at Edingley (Nottinghamshire). He died on 2 June 1869. |
