Administrative History | In 1891 a Mr H B Sykes, a local Derby businessman, began taking groups of boys on summer camping holidays to Skegness. Several other businessmen assisted Mr Sykes and c1900 a committee of trustees was formed to administer the holidays. A permanent site was acquired and a home built at 1 Scarborough Avenue, funded by donations from the citizens of Derby, to provide seaside holidays for Derbyshire children. In later years holidays were also provided for girls and other children in Derbyshire. The home was registered under the Charities Act 1960, and the officers in charge were Mr & Mrs J Stuart. It was mothballed in September 1995 and later closed. |
