| Administrative History | According to the article, Gervase Cooper (c1813-1906) was the great-grandson of Parson Slater of Shottle (d. 1821), "whose life story was published in The Methodist Recorder" of Winter 1899. Slater is purported to have given the first Methodist sermon in the streets in Duffield and was involved in the building of the first chapel in 1777.
Cooper became the organist in 1844, after an organ was presented to the chapel the previous year. |
