| Administrative History | The Holwell Iron Co, based in Ashfordby near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, was established in 1874. The company produced iron ore from the local ironstone, much of which was initially sent to Stanton Ironworks and other Derbyshire iron smelters. In 1881 they build their own furnaces and became smelters and iron manufacturers. The company was purchased by Stanton Ironworks in 1918. |
