Title
Certificate that William Longsdon of Little Longsdon died at Middlewood house in chapelry of Bradfield [Yorkshire] on the last day of February 1657/8 being the Lords Day and was buried in Sheffield churchyard on Wednesday, 3 March; and that Thomas Longsdon, son of William, was born 17 March next 1657/8, Wednesday, about 10 o'clock, and was baptised 7 April 1658 at Middlewood House by Robert Chadwick, Curate at Bradfield.
Annotated in later hand with birth of Thomas Longsdon, junior, 7 October 1677 at Armley near Leeds [Yorkshire]
[There is a strong family tradition that William was wounded in a skirmish near Sheffield, and rescued from the thick of the fight by his wife (a daughter of John Berley of Middlewood), who rode with him to safety, then returned to the Skirmish to take command of his troop and was ever after known as Captain Bess. Sources; current tradition and The Reliquary II 156]
