The first of these maps is described in the Derbyshire Record Society's "A Catalogue of Local Maps of Derbyshire c.1528–1800" (compiled by Harold Nichols, revised by Mary Wiltshire assisted by Susan Woore, published 2012). The description reads as follows: A Plan of the Messuages, Lands and Tenements late pt of the Estate of Godfrey Meynell Esq. Deceased as are now remaining unsold lying in Meynell Langley in ye County of Derby in the Possession of Mr Richard Whitby, the Receiver appointed by the High Court of Chancery shewing the different shares allotted to each Proprietor by Virtue of a Commission from ye said court directed to J.Beighton, Tho. Oldknow & Frans. Beresford. 1767. Surveyor:Francis Beresford. Scale: of 20 chains [1:4500]. Size: 70 x 55 cm. Materials: coloured ink on parchment.
