TRANSLATION
Know [all men] present and future that I, Robert Piscator [Fisher] of Sceyneston, son of Geoffery fullonis [fuller] of Kalc [Calke], have given, granted and by this present writing confirmed to Avice, my daughter, of Sceyneston, all my land at Kalc, which I had peacefully and lawfully by inheritance, which I possessed after my brother, William of Kalc, together with freehold messuages with their adjoining land: to have and to hold of the chief lord of that fee to me and my heirs freely, quietly and in peace. Thus, I and my forebears have always held possession to hold it forever, thence making an annual, customary service to the capital lord of that fee of all exactions, customs and demands, as contained in the principal charter.

If, perchance, the aforesaid Avice, or the heirs of her body, should, by misfortune, die, I wish that the aforesaid land, together with all its appurtenances, shall revert without objection to my heirs or assigns.

And I the aforesaid Robert and my heirs will warrant, discharge and defend forever the said land with its appurtenances to the aforesaid Avice and her heirs against all men forever , as ……..[?] I donate, grant, confirm and warrant in peace and validity, I press my seal to this record [roll] of my present writing.

These [being] witnesses: Roger Le Conk, Robert Mountioy, Mihone de Melton, Engelard Le Curscu’ de Tykenhale, William de Herteshorn, Robert de Nobenhale, Henry de Caneria in Twyford, William de Sceyneston, clerk, and others
