Title | Medical Appeal Tribunal case file for William Redman, aged 63, Miner at Williamthorpe, relating to an Industrial Accident |
Date | 1958 |
Description | Date of birth: 11/12/1894 Marital status: Married Address: 4 Birkin Lane, Grassmoor Type of injury: Elbow injury Description of accident: Knocked elbow on a steel prop Further information: Previous accident ins November 1952 to head. During the recovery phase of the December 1956 accident, two strokes were suffered causing hemiplegia and loss of speech. Mrs Redman was unable to accept that the elbow injury was unconnected to the strokes and wrote several letters to Mr Kitts, to one of which he replied: 'it is not true that everything is cut and dried before hand [...] if I take this week and the cases which I have represented, out of ten cases which I have taken seven of the results are in favour of the workmen'. The Medical Appeal Tribunal found: 'Having considered the evidence and seen the claimant, we do not connect the right hemi-plegia with the relevant accident'. Letter dated 2 September 1959 to Mr Wynn at Derbyshire NUM from Mrs Redman includes: 'Im writing to you because of what I've read in the Derbyshire Times about giving £200 away to Retired miners, It makes my Blood Boil to think Ive an Invade Husband for 3 years [...] & he gets nothing & the Miners Union they are not worth a Pinch of Snuff'. |
