Description of accident: Had erected a prop in a pack-hole when a steel prop flew out and hit him in the face
Further information: Hyatt had an accident on 27 July 1948 when he fractured his head and jaw. Medical Board Reports (dated 7 January 1949 and June 1950) note that he is almost completely deaf, and has some facial disfigurement. He was doing 'light work' as of November 1949. A further medical board report of 23 June 1950 states 'mentally is retarded and introspective.' The appeal was against the assessment of 15 per cent for life from 27 July 1950 (previous assessments had been 70 per cent and 50 per cent). The medical board also noted there was 'hyperpiesis'which was assessed at 20 per cent, although unrelated to the relevant accident. On appeal on 14 September 1950 the assessment was increased to 25 per cent for life.
