Orthopaedic surgeon report August 1953 states: ' I find it difficult to associate this man's complaints with his physical condition and I am not inclined to agree with him that he is permanently disaboled from heavy work. I have treid to reassure him that his back is sound and that he should do his best to resume work at the coal face'. September 1953 Medical Board gave 3 per cent final disability assessment which was upheld in November 1953 at Appeal. In December 1953 an appeal for Special Hardship Allowance was favourable to the claimant. Special Hardship Allowance was to cease from September 1955. Letter from GP concluded 'Whilst I have no doubt that there is a psychical element to this disability, I feel the latter is none the less real, and as his family doctor support his appeal'. |
