Title
Local Appeal Tribunal case file for Simeon Hitchman, aged 39, Coal Filler at Glapwell
Date
1952
Description
Date of birth: 02/11/1912
Marital status: Not given
Address: 65 Coniston Road, Newbold Moor, Chesterfield
Type of benefit claimed: Special Hardship Allowance
Type of injury: Injury - knee
Further information: Hitchman injured his knee when he slipped whilst travelling to work. The tribunal allowed the claim but this was disputed in a letter addressed to Hitchman by the Clerk to the Tribunal on 21 August 1952, which asserted that 'further evidence has been received which suggests that the Local Tribunal's decision was incorrect.' The evidence appears to be confirmation of dates during which Hitchman was employed as a coal filler at Glapwell Colliery supplied by the colliery itself, which appear to contradict information presented at the tribunal. The new hearing was scheduled for 28 August 1952 but there is no official record of the tribunal's final decision.
