Title
Local Appeal Tribunal case file for Francis Bradley, aged 41, Boiler Fireman at [colliery not stated]
Date
1950
Description
Date of birth: 08/10/1908
Marital status: Married
Address: 109 Centre Street, Doe Lea, Chesterfield
Type of benefit claimed: Special Hardship Allowance
Type of injury: Injury - knee
Further information: Bradley suffered an injury to his left knee and, after returning to work, claimed he could not undertake his usual occupation as a boiler-fireman. His first hearing before the tribunal was on 1 June 1950, which was adjourned so that medical evidence could be obtained. Bradley's doctor, in a letter to the tribunal, claimed he had advised Bradley to return to work. It was not clear at the time, according to the doctor, that the injury to Bradley's left knee had resulted in a torn cartilage; the cartilage had subsequently been removed. The tribunal found in favour of Bradley stating, 'In view of fact that return to work was on the advice of Medical Practioner, Special Hardship Allowance is payable for period in question'. That period was from 29/03/1950 to 16/05/1950.
