Title
Lease for 21 years by Marquis of Halifax, Lord Privy Seal, to John Stones of Shirland yeoman and John Wright of the same weaver, of one third of closes and parcels of land in Shirland called the Two Pasture Closes and the Foure Chappell Cleffe Closes containing 20 acres now in the occupation of Stones or his assigns, and one third of 4 closes called the Pastures in Shirland containing 9 acres with one third of a house thereupon lately built now in the occupation of Wright or his assigns, and one third of 2 closes in Shirland Park containing 6 acres now in the occupation of Wright or his assigns, with ways, passages and watercourses, (except warrens, woods, mines of lead, coal, ironstone and limestone, with liberty of dig, fell and carry away). Yearly rent £4 12s 6d. The lessees covenant to do suit at the courts of the manor of Shirland, and to the next mill of the lessor and Charles, Earl of Shrewsbury, to repair the premises, to pay the yearly sum of £3 for every acre of ley ground ploughed up to be sown with corn in the last two years, and not to assign the premises, except to their wives or children, without consent 10 May 36 Charles II
