Title
Account and minute book for Friargate Unitarian Church
Date
1697-1819
Description
Until the 1790's meetings were held for special purposes. Regular meetings begin in 1798. There is a gap in the detailed annual accounts between 1713 and 1731:
Minutes of a general meeting held 27 March 1699 to appoint a new minister;
Minutes of a general meeting held 6 July 1704 to appoint one minister to have the whole pastoral charge;
Minutes of a general meeting held 12 June 1718 for the election of chapel wardens and settlement of money due on a bond;
Minutes of a meeting of the "heads of the Society of Protestant Dissenters in Derby" at the George Inn 3 September 1754, regarding the ministers' salaries;
Memorandum of plate received from Samuel Crompton 21 June 1758;
Minutes of meeting held 23 July 1766 regarding a bequest of £200 by Abraham Compton to augment the salary of the ministers to be lent on the turnpike road from Derby to Mansfield;
Minutes of meeting held 15 May 1776: agreement to pay the choirmaster £3-10s per annum;
Minutes of meeting held 27 March 1796 to consider a request for the resignation of the minister Mr Pilkington following his publication "The Doctrine of Equality" which had given offence to some members of the congregation.
