Title
Correspondence: Thomas Chambers in Halifax to Miss Mary Brownson (at Ashbourne) - is glad to be able to fulfil his promise of writing to her as soon as possible after his arrival at Halifax - his welcome upon his arrival at home was unbelievable - the only things that mar his happiness are his sister's illness and Mary's absence but the parting will not be long - after leaving Ashbourne he reached Derby at 10am and caught the Leeds train at 1pm - arrived at Halifax at 6, four hours earlier than expected - has not seen much of the town because of the weather - the church will not bear comparison with the splendid edifice at Ashbourne - Halifax is almost surrounded by hills and is a very smoky place - their house is very large - hopes to hear from her soon and will wait in suspense until then, 23 Aug (nb Thomas Chambers later married Mary Brownson)
