In most of the letters the elder Samuel instructs his son on the importance of gentlemanly behaviour, and the benefits of a career in the law. The letters also refer to the birth of Samuel junior's sister Frances Jane (24 Nov 1806), the dissolution of Parliament (6 May 1807), a production of Coriolanus at Drury Lane (15 May 1807), the collection of pictures at Burleigh (23 May 1807) - 1806-1811
