D2249 - Cresswell of Edale and other families - 1980s
1 - “The Cresswells of Derbyshire”, compiled by M Wallis, Worksop, Nottinghamshire, describing the family’s origin in Northumberland, from which a “younger member” of the family settled near Chapel-en-le-Frith and founded a family there which held lands in and about Chapel-en-le-Frith c. 1350-1631. The family then migrated to Edale. Its later history is related, including marriage to an heiress of Mellor of Idridgehay. - c1980
