1 - Will of Hugh Revell: to be buried in Shirland church, bequests to Shirland church, provision for foundation of a chantry in the church, provision made for children and bastard children, bequests to servants, family, and reference to properties. Executors: John Revell his brother's son Sir John Dawson parson of Shirland, Rawndell Sandforth and Robert Worth of Crich. Supervisors: John Abbot of Beauchief, John Sandforth, John Frenchville, Roger Heyre and Raff Greenall. Witnesses: Otwell Low, John Altost and Peter Nes scribe 15 May, probate at Lichfield 9 Jul. Administration granted to executors. Note: this will has been calendared - see under "Description" - 1504

2 - Exemplifications of entries on the court roll of the royal manor of Mansfield (1525 - 1551) a) Surrender and admission by Edward Sandford of lands in Mansfield and Mansfield Woodhouse lately had by surrender of John Revell executor of Hugh Revell father of Roland Revell, to the use of Thomas Leake, John Morehall and Henry Hince of Spinkell, entry fine 8d. Thursday after feast of St Mark the Evangelist 17 Hen VIII [27 Apr 1525]. b) Will of Rowland Revell of Mansfield with reference to property in Nottinghamshire, offices of the Bailiwick of Peveril as in deed of [29 Sep 1529], son William by Sybil Duke, her unborn child, brother Tristram, bastard brother Randle, Robert Revell of Augston [?Ogston], property in Mansfield, daughter Elnor, term of years in Woodhouse Mylne, property in Mansfield Woodhouse, wife Mary. (23 Oct 1529). For a calendar of the will, see under "Description" c) Surrender and admission by Thomas Leake of Beauchief, a feoffee of Edmund Sandford together with John Morehawe and Henry Hince of Spinkell, of lands, tenements etc in Mansfield and Mansfield Woodhouse, which Thomas had of the gift and surrender of Edmund, together with lands and tenements which Thomas had of the gift and surrender of Roland Revell, to named persons, for performance of the will of Roland Revell. Fine 12d. 21 Apr 1544. d) Surrender and admission by William Walker mercer and William Boulser of lands tenements etc in Mansfield and Mansfield Woodhouse had with others of the gift and surrender of Thomas Leake of Beauchief, for performance of Roland's will. Fine 4d. 24 Nov 1551. With an undated note by Robert Revell that when these lands were surrendered by William his father, law and custom required that proclamation should be made on 3 court days following the sale, since their copyhold was in ancient demesne and the lands were a lawful inheritance to William. Since no proclamation was made Robert is of the opinion that the land either reverts to the family or escheats to the lord. English - [16th cent]

3-4 - Probate inventory with counterpart of Edward Revell of South Normanton, taken 20 Aug 26 Eliz - [1584]

5 - Memorandum of receipt by Edward Revell of Grays Inn from George Revell of Carlingthaite his brother of £100 in satisfaction of such child's part of the goods and chattels of Edward Revell his father deceased as he might claim from George. 1 Oct - 1585

6 - Memorandum of receipt between the same parties of £200 given to Edward by George of his own free will. 23 Oct - 1585

7 - Will of William Richardson of London, being purposed to go on a voyage with the Earl of Essex and to adventure his life for prince and country, and therefore uncertain of his return, bequeaths all his goods, chattels and debts due to his especial friend Edward Revell of Brookhill, in whose custody the same now are; he appoints Edward his sole executor - 19 Jun 1597

13 - Power of attorney by Nicholas Revell of Carnfield to his brother Tristram Revell of the same to demand and take debts due to Nicholas from John Kyte of Hucknall-under-Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire, William Deane of the same and Samuel Parsons of Tibshelf yeoman, or any other persons 3 Jul. - 1704

14 - Will of Nicholas Revell of Carnfield, bequeaths to his brother Tristram Revell all his goods, chattels, rights and credits, appointing Tristram his sole executor. 9 Dec - 1704

15 - Probate inventory of Ann Revell of Brookhill, taken 1 - 10 March (defective) - 1724

16 - Copy [contemporary] of the will of Robert Revell of Carnfield, makes provision for daughter Frances and for descent of his property; bequest to cousin Mary Harper; refers to personal possessions and family heirlooms; wife and trustees named as executors. 29 Oct 1729, codicils 9 Nov 1729 and 8 Dec 1729.
