History	Whittington Hall was founded by Revd Harold Nelson Burden (1860-1930) in 1902 as a home for "inebriates", a forerunner to the Burden Trust. From 1912 it was known as Home for the Care of the Feeble-Minded, later Instutution for the Mentally Defective, housing around 350-400 inmates. It was referred to in the 1939 National Register as the National Institution for Persons Requiring Care and Control
