History
He was notable as an editor, translator and encourger of geographical literature. His most important work was "The Principal Navigations", which was first published in 1589 and then much expanded in three volumes, 1598-1600, in essence a massive compilation of voyages from the 4th century to the recent exploits of Elizabethan seamen such as Drake and Cavendish.
