History
The Chesterfield Canal had the objective of improving communications between North-East Derbyshire and the Trent. It opened in 1777 and closed to working traffic in 1955. ¶ ¶For the history of the canal see 'Minutes of the Chesterfield Canal Company' by Christine Richardson (Derbyshire Record Society, 1996).
