Description
Returns to the clerk of the peace of provision of places of temporary confinement (often called houses of correction) for vagrants, paupers with a pass and other minor offenders, made in response to an order of Quarter Sessions of Jan 1790. They may sometimes say that one is being or will be built. The returns are usually signed by the constable and an overseer and may be signed by others in addition.
