Madam
It is with the greatest reluctance
I now write from the fear of giving you
uneasiness, but I am compell'd to inform
you it is wholly out of my power to continue
Miss Feilding in my family for the period
agreed on, an unpleasant change in her
manners (I conclude from some dislike to
me or my House) has made it absolutely
necessary we should part, which we are
now about to do by mutual consent.
Miss Feilding has another situation in view
that I beliee to be unexceptionable, &
only waits your permission to accept of
[page 2]
it is at a Mrs Percivals in the Circus, who
has agreed to take her for the remainder
of the time on condition that I pay her
ten Guineas one half of the premium
I received from you which with your
leave I readily consent to do. At the same
time I wish it to be understood that I make
no complaint against Miss Feildings moral
conduct, no young woman in that respect
can act with more propriety, what I
particularly object to is an incivility in
her manners towards me that I am
quite unaccustom'd to, & an inattention
to business totally adverse to her own
improvement & extremely inconvenient
to me. I feel much hurt in being
obliged to point out to you any defects
[page 3]
in Miss Feilding well knowing how highly
she values your kindness & good opinion
but an explanation which is due to you
& a regard for my own character require
me to be explicit on the subject
I am Madam
with great respect
yr oblig'd humble servant
E Edgell
