Administrative History | Derbyshire County Council's property services function included a prominent role for the County Architect, who had overall responsibility for accommodation of the authority's services. Particularly notable was the 1904 appointment of County Architect George H. Widdows (1871-1946). During the course of his Derbyshire career, Widdows designed 60 elementary schools and 17 secondary schools. His designs were highly influential on school buildings throughout the country.

In the 1970s, Derbyshire County Council reorganised its legal and property records to facilitate the identification of title deeds to properties it owned and occupied. The property boundaries were marked onto Ordnance Survey maps of the county and each discrete property was assigned a unique reference number beginning CT, which stood for County Terrier. Details of the deeds associated with each CT number were recorded in accession registers and index cards maintained by the council's Modern Records service. In the early 2000s, the council adopted a digital Geographic Information System (GIS) which effectively replaced the paper maps. |
