Administrative HistoryFrances Eyre of Hassop assumed the title 6th Earl of Newburgh on the death of his cousin Anthony James Radcliffe, 5th Earl of Newburgh, in 1814. Francis's uncle, Thomas Eyre (d.1792) had left a benefaction for a Roman Catholic Chapel at Hassop. In 1816 this money was put to its intended use and a chapel built by Joseph Ireland. The total cost was £2,400 and it appears that Francis, 6th Earl of Newburgh, added £1,000 to make up the deficit.
Custodial HistoryThese copies were donated to the Record Office in 1971.
