| Administrative History | Emily Sellwood, later Tennyson (1813-1896) was the daughter of lawyer Henry Sellwood and his wife Sarah (nee Franklin), as well as the niece of Arctic explorer Sir John Franklin and cousin of Eleanor Isabella Franklin, later Gell. Emily married the poet Alfred Tennyson on 13 June 1850 at Shiplake near Reading, Berkshire; they had two children, Hallam (1852-1928) and Lionel (born 1854). She became the secretary and manager of her husband's business arrangements after their marriage. She was also the sister of Anne (1814-1896), who later married Charles Weld, and Louisa (1816-1879), who married Reverend Charles Tennyson Turner, brother of the poet Alfred. |
