| Administrative History | Margaret Chapman, originally from Aston, Birmingham, was a student at Thornbridge Hall Teacher Training college, near Bakewell in the 1950s.
Thornbridge Hall Training College was established in 1948 by the Sheffield Education Authority. The college was based in the Grade II listed Thornbridge Hall, Great Longstone. The main house was used as residential quarters, with common room and dining hall. Further houses in the grounds were also used for student accommodation. Classroom for practical work were added.
Thornbridge Hall, Great Longstone, was the former seat of the Longsdon family from the 12th to 18th century. It remained in private hands until its last private owner Charles Boot, a Sheffield entrepreneur who designed and built television and film studios Pinewood Studios, died in 1945 and the hall was taken over by Sheffield City Council, becoming a teacher training college in 1948. The college closed in 1975 and the hall became a multipurpose education centre, a conference centre, and then privately owned home.
