Custodial HistoryThis material appears to have been left at Willersley Castle when it was vacated by the Arkwright family following the death in 1923 of Frederic Charles Arkwright (born 1853) and then sold in 1927 by his elder son, Richard Alleyne Arkwright (1884-1965) for use by the Methodist (later Christian) Guild as an hotel. The material was discovered at Willersley Castle c. 1980, transferred on "a permanent loan basis" and later donated to the Arkwright Society.
ArrangementThe Box lettering is that used on the original wooden muniment boxes in which the records were stored.

The documents have not been marked with reference numbers by Derbyshire Record Office staff, and the numbers attributed to them come from the 2012 box-list, unless otherwise stated. The list is not to be regarded as a full catalogue: descriptions are not complete, and the author of the 2012 list refers to them as "occasional notes ... relating to condition and possibly to content". The bundle or document descriptions have generally been written in quotation marks, with a forward slash [/] used to indicate a new line. Where no quotation marks have been used, a short summary of the document is given for the purpose of identification.
