Administrative HistoryClara (1791-1865), daughter of Sir Charles Blois 6th Baronet, of Cockfield Hall, Suffolk married William Palmer of Ladbrooke, Warwickshire in 1815. William inherited the Alfreton estates of the Morewood family through his mother, whose sister married Gilbert Morewood. Gilbert died childless in 1792, and the estate passed to his widow, Helen (William's aunt, d1824) and her second husband, Revd Henry Case (d1825), who also took the name Morewood. On inheriting the estate, William took the name Palmer Morewood by royal licence.
