DescriptionResearch notebooks re the history of Tideswell
The contents of these notebooks were researched and compiled by the Rev. J M J Fletcher, Vicar of Tideswell from 1900-1906 and later Canonof Sailsbury, and were used in the wiritng of a number of publications regarding the history of the parish of Tideswell. His reseach pays particular regard to those who had title or particular influence in the village from c1086 when Tideswell was in the parish of Hope. There are also references to Litton and Wheston, both within the parish of Tideswell, and to Wormhill, Priestcliffe and Taddington.

The research notes include transcriptions of momumental inscriptions in Tideswell Church, family pedigrees including that of the Peverell family, excerpts from published works on Tideswell, line drawings of seals and coat of arms, transcriptions from manor court records etc.

Publications produced from such research include A Guide to Tideswell and its Church, 1922; 'Notes on the History of Tideswell and its Manor' and 'Bishop Pursglove of Tideswell' both reprinted from the Derbyshire Archaeological Society and Natural History Society's Journal, 1910 - all of which are available to consult in the Record Office search room.
