Administrative HistoryFrederick Swanwick, who is listed in Bradshaw's Directory for 1846 as a 'civil engineer, Tapton Villa, Whittington'. As a trustee of Webster's Trust (which endowed the grammar school in Whittington) he was a significant benefactor to the school, and c1931 it was renamed in honour of his daughter Mary (d 1917) who had also been closely involved with the school.

Margery Eleanor Norton was born about in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to British parents, Robert and Edith Norton. The family do not appear in the 1881 or 1891 England census; at the time of the 1901 census, the family were living at St George's Hanover Square, London and Robert is described as a Brazilian merchant. Margery Eleanor married Eric Dalton Swanwick (a solicitor) in 1904, and at the time of the 1911 census they are recorded Hasland House, Chesterfield, with their three children. By 1916, the family were living at Whittington House (as per Kelly's Trade Directory). Born in Cirencester, Gloucestshire in 1871, Eric Dalton Swanwick was the son of Russell Swanwick and grandson of Frederick Swanwick. He is recorded in the 1901 census at the house of his aunt, Mary (see above), in Whittington.
