DescriptionNewspaper articles relate to various Derbyshire and Sheffield athletes and events, including Mavis Elcock (later Edson), Emmanuel McDonald Bailey (1920-2013), Ernest Harper (1902-1979), Guy Butler (1899-1981), George Ellis (b. 1932), Roland Hardy (1926-2016) and Ron Hill (1938-2021). Many of the newscuttings relate to Chesterfield Schools sports events, plus photographs of school staff and classroom. Several newscuttings concern the award of cash prizes to children taking part in local events, and the risk that they will then not be able to compete in other events run by or in accordance with the rules of the Amateur Athletics Association.

Includes a photograph of Wembley Stadium during the 1948 Olympic Games.
