Description
This section is primarily concerned with the principal conveyance from Sir James Winter Lake, baronet, to Thomas Pares, in 1786, of the Hopwell estate. The estate comprised Hopwell Hall, the manor of Hopwell, the advowson of Ockbrook, one-tenth of the manor of Ockbrook, and pieces of land in Hopwell, Ockbrook and Borrowash. The Hopwell estate passed through the hands of Ferdinand Sacheverell, Henry Kayes and his son of the same name, and Bache Thornhill before being purchased by Sir Bibye Lake in 1734. Henry Kayes the younger also purchased one-tenth of the manor of Ockbrook from Robert Piggen.
Other conveyances of smaller pieces of land in Ockbrook will be found below in section D5336/1/10.
