Administrative HistoryThe Arkwright Festival took place in the months of July and August 1971 to celebrate and commemorate the bi-centenary of the granting of a patent to Richard Arkwright, who established of the world's first water-powered spinning mill at Cromford, which is generally recognised as the starting-point of the Industrial Revolution.

The Festival Committee led on, towards the end of 1970, to the establishment of the Arkwright Society, which continues to preserve and administer the buildings of Cromford Mill and open them to the general public.
Custodial HistoryThe records were deposited in the Derbyshire Record Office in September 1999. They relate to the work of the Treasurer of the Committee.
