Administrative HistoryThe documents mostly relate to the attempts of William and Mary Barton and their cousins James and Mary Stokes to lay claim to property which had been Milnes family estate in Litton in the mid 18th century and which was then in the possession of the Baker family. Their claim was based on their decent from the Milnes family and the lack of title possessed by the Baker family. The claim was investigated c1819-1822.
