| Administrative History | On 8 September 1969 the name of the Butterley Company Ltd was changed to Butterley Building Materials Ltd. All the engineering concerns had been sold off earlier, and the newly named company concentrated their business on brick-making and related operations for the Wiles Group, later Hanson Trust Ltd.
Several companies have been acquired by BBM, Including the National Star Group in 1971, the Castle Fire Brick Co Ltd in 1972, the Midland Brick Co Ltd (with several works in Nottinghamshire, Leicesterhire and Staffordshire) in 1973, the Auchinlea Brick Co Ltd (based at Cleland, Lanarkshire) in 1973, the assets of Samuel Wilkinson and Sons Ltd (of Elland, West Yorkshire) in 1982, and London Brick, including the Milton Hall Co (based at Southend, Essex) and the Claughton Manor Brick Co Ltd (based in Lancashire) in 1984. |
