Administrative History
Local Boards of Health were first set up in 1848 to administer services which related to public health in populated areas not covered by borough councils. Under the Public Health Act 1872 local boards of health were designated rural sanitary authorities and in 1894, these authorities became urban/rural district councils under the Local Government Act of that year. Hayfield RDC was abolished in 1934 when it was absorbed into Chapel-en-le-Frith RDC.
Custodial History
These records were deposited in Derbyshire Record Office on behalf of the incoming High Peak Borough Council in Nov 1973 and were originally accessioned as D1323, before being re-accessioned in 1997. A further item (D4675/5/1) was donated by a member of the public in August 2022.
