Administrative History
George Milnes was born in Riddings, went to school at Wessington, worked briefly at Shirland pit and later at Alfreton pit. He and his family lived at Somercotes for many years. He was an active trade unionist and Methodist, devoting much of his time to the Salem Chapel at Somercotes.

These items were donated to the Record Office in May 1995.
