Administrative HistoryIn 1707 Thomas Nightingale bought Lea Hurst, formerly the property of the Spateman family of Roadnook, Morton. The Nightingales married into the Evans family of Matlock and then into the Norton Shore family. William Edward Norton Shore took the surname Nightingale. He was the father of Parthenope and Florence Nightingale (d1910). Various outlying parts of the Lea Hurst estate were sold in 1919 and the remainder was disposed of after the death of Louis Nightingale in 1940
Custodial HistoryThese documents were transferred from a London firm of solicitors via the British Records Association (BRA no 2650) in January 1995.
