Archive CreatorEyam, formerly Wesleyan, Methodist Church, Hawkhill Road
Administrative HistoryMethodism in Eyam goes back to the 18th century. Clarence Daniel's history of Methodism in Eyam from 1906 to 1956 cites the deeds to the original chapel, situated in the Town End of the village, going back to 1787. However, this chapel severed its ties with the Bakewell Wesleyan Methodist circuit in the mid-19th century, becoming part of the Wesleyan Reform Church. The Wesleyan Methodists built a new place of worship on Hawkhill Road in Eyam in 1906, informally known as "Top Chapel". The final service was held there on 19 June 2011.
Custodial HistoryThe first deposit of records was made by the Church in 1994. Some of these records were originally deposited as part of Peak Methodist Circuit. They were reaccessioned in 1994 with additional deposits in October 1996 and October 1999. Further records were received after the church closed from the Peak Methodist Circuit in November 2012, August 2014 and September 2021.
