Administrative HistoryThe Mothers' Union began in 1876. It is organised nationally by an elected Council under the President. Each diocese has an organising Council under a President, with deanery organisation handled by a presiding officer who liaises with branches (usually associated with a parish or church). Within the branch the enrolling member liaises with the deanery presiding officer.

Derbyshire was in the diocese of Lichfield until 1888, then the diocese of Southwell until the creation of the diocese of Derby in 1927.
