Administrative History
The Chesterfield, formerly Wesleyan, Methodist circuit formed in 1806 and was based on the chapel at Saltergate. The circuit became the Chesterfield Central Methodist circuit on the amalgamation of the Wesleyan and Primitive Methodist Churches in 1930. The other Chesterfield circuits - Marsden Street; Mount Zion and Holywell - have also been gradually absorbed into this circuit.
