| Administrative History | The Ancient Order of Foresters was established nationally in 1834. It provided benefits to its members in times of illness, accident or death. Membership was arranged in local groups known as 'courts'.
The 'Mill in the Vale' court covered an area centred on Heanor and Langley Mill which was a sub-division of the Foresters' Bagthorpe district. In addition to adult members, there was also a Juvenile Sick and Funeral Society. A significant part of the activies of this group was organising outings for children which included the 'Annual Treat', an excursion to a seaside destination, usually by rail (see D3011/26-28). |
