Archivist NoteBefore the deposit of the collection many of the documents had been given their own reference number by Mr Pashley, starting or ending with letters A, B or C. The original listing reflected this, but the poorly executed and often very confusing catalogue meant that it was decided to replace it. A straightfoward numbering system was adopted rather one with a classified structure due to the disparate and miscellaneous nature of the collection. Mr Pashley's original reference numbers are retained in the Previous Number field, as are some later reference numbers applied by archive staff but which were superceded.
