Archive CreatorDerby South Methodist Circuit
Administrative HistoryDerby South Methodist Circuit was formed in 1936, with the merger of the former circuits of the Wesleyan, Primitive and United Methodist churches into one large circuit.

There was a Wesleyan Circuit in Derby and the surrounding area from 1782. In 1871 it split into two circuits called King Street (covering North Derby) and Green Hill (covering South Derby). For records of the Derby Wesleyan and King Street Circuits, see D2670.

There was originally a New Methodist Connexion Circuit for Derby and neighbouring districts, which later became Dairy House Road United Methodist Circuit in 1907. There was also a United Methodist Free Circuit, which later became known as Becket Street Circuit.

The Primitive Methodists had four circuits by 1932, namely Derby 1st, later called Traffic Street; Derby 2nd, later called Kedleston Street; Derby 3rd, later called Central, and Derby 4th, later called Dale Road.

In September 2009, the Derby South Methodist Circuit merged with the two remaining circuits in Derby to form one Derby Methodist Circuit.
Custodial HistoryThe records have been deposited in Derbyshire Record Office by the Superintendent Minister or Circuit Administrator of the Derby South Methodist Circuit from 1982 onwards. A further item was deposited in October 2014 (see D2594/UL).
