Administrative HistoryParishes are organised into rural deaneries. Clergy meet regularly, usually quarterly, in chapter and there is also a conference, usually annually, of elected clergy and laity. Before 1927 the Archdeaconry of Derby covered the county as an administrative unit of the Diocese of Lichfield and, later, of the Diocese of Southwell. When the Diocese of Derby was created in 1927, new archdeaconries of Derby and Chesterfield were established.

The chapter was originally for the associated deaneries of Alfreton, Ashover and Wirksworth, starting in December 1847. In the 1860s Wirksworth left the chapter (for records see D3386). By the 1870s the deanery seems to be called Alfreton.
Custodial HistoryThe records were deposited by the Rural Dean of Alfreton at various dates from 1975.
