Description | Hartington, Parwich etc. title deeds and other papers
These papers were assembled into two volumes by William Johnson Edensor of Hartington in the early 19th century. The first volume comprises information from title deeds to Edensor family property in Parwich (17th -18th cent), in Hulme near Manchester including Cornbrook brewery (purchased jointly with Thomas Bateman) (late 18th - 19th cent), in Whittington, Shropshire (18th - 19th cent) and in Wrexham, Denbighshire (18th - 19th cent). The second volume comprises bonds, receipts, agreements, correspondence chiefly 17th - 19th century, concerning the Edensor, Brereton and Middleton families and their property in Hartington and Cronkston Grange. Pedigrees and explanatory notes are included. One item is a letter from the Earl of Devonshire’s agent in March 1685 instructing his tenants to vote for “Mr Gray of Risley” [Anchitel Grey] [D1235/Z/33a] The volumes are paginated and these numbers have been retained. |
