| Biography | Attah was an enslaved African on the Turners Hall sugar plantation in Barbados. She first appears in the records on 31 December 1759 and is described as having one hand. Her hand was most likely lost in an accident at the mill. In 1771 she was recorded as driver [overseer] of meat getters. The meat getters, or meat gang, weeded the fields and cared for the animals, and was made up of the very young and very old. |
