Administrative HistoryFirst sunk around 1847 to work the Deep Soft and Deep Hard Coal seams. This site eventually took over coal production from the Shipley Colliery. The original No. 1 pit closed in 1928 due to exhaustion of coal reserves. The 2nd and 3rd pits were sunk in 1899.

In 1947 control of Woodside Colliery passed into the control of the National Coal Board following the nationalisation of the coal industry. It was part of East Midlands Division Area No. 5. The deep mine colliery closed in 1961 to be merged with Coppice Colliery, but a drift mine had been opened in 1950 and this continued to operate until 1966.
